IONNA ⋆✴︎⋆

IONNA is a synth-driven electronic music project

created by Soraya Silene, a singer-songwriter, and producer, out of Richmond, Va. When you listen to IONNA, you can hear the influences of Kate Bush, The Cure, and St.Vincent. IONNA’s driving melodies move between being danceable and other times, ambient, calling the listener to the universal and collective. IONNA is narrative-driven, based initially on a fantasized character and a comic sketch.

Soraya Silene began her music career when she opened a music venue in the Richmond, Va, arts district in 2012. That venue became a cultural hub where electronic music, synth-pop, and rock n’ roll were all blurring. She began playing guitar and singing in the Richmond music scene before moving to New York and starting her band, where she wrote her first EP in 2017, released as singles with an Americana/Rock sound. In 2019, Soraya made it her mission to learn how to self-produce a record. Reinventing her sound and spending more time with sound design allowed her to create a new musical language for IONNA.
